Bontrager TwentyFour 12 - 3rd Base

The weekend of July 26th & 27th saw Plymouth (UK, for those who don’t know) play host to the 3rd Bontrager TwentyFour 12 event at the World Famous Newnham Park course.
It’s the first time Newnham has been home to the TF12 and if the reactions of those who took part and the organisers are anything to go by - they’ll be back next year!
The weather was blisteringly hot from Friday onwards ensuring that the 12.5k course was in perfect condition for some fast times, the campers would be comfortable and that shaved headed types (me) would end up sunburnt and peeling by Tuesday. Awesome!
I’m not going to focus on who did how many laps in what time (although you can download the results here) because that’s not what I was there for. The TwentyFour 12 format has really got the feel of a Festival about it, kind of like the Malverns used to have back when they started. Just a few hundred people, spending the weekend camping in a field and ‘racing’ bikes around a brilliant course. Racing as it should be: Fun, accessable & good natured.
I’ll leave you with the pics I managed to get before my unfortunate incident with a jeep. For details of that see my piece which will go online in a couple of days.
Big thanks are due to Martyn Salt & his team for putting the TwentyFour 12 on, Keith Bontrager for being such a Big Thing in Mountain Biking for so long (and still loving it) and the Cobbold family for allowing the event to be held on their property.
